Defending champions and 40-time winners Mumbai will begin their Ranji Trophy campaign against Haryana in the sleepy little town of Lahli on Sunday. The four-day match, to be played at the Chaudhary Bansi Lal Stadium, is a precursor to Sachin Tendulkar’s final days as an international cricketer. The batting legend will pad up for his beloved Mumbai one last time as he prepares for the two-match Test series against the West Indies next month.
In Lahli, Tendulkar will have the company of good friend and pace spearhead Zaheer Khan. The fit-again left-armer, who will lead Mumbai in the absence of newly-appointed skipper Rohit Sharma, is also hoping to make a comeback into the Test side. The domestic giants will also enjoy the services of Wasim Jaffer, Ajinkya Rahane, Abhishek Nayar and Dhaval Kulkarni.
What’s more, Haryana will be captained and coached by Ajay Jadeja. The 42-year-old former India batsman, who last played first-class cricket in 2007, seems to be enjoying his new role.
