LPG delivery may get hit in district

If you were upset with your cooking gas dealer for the delay in supply of cylinders following recent labour problems, there is worse to come. Issues related with the software, used by oil companies for booking, billing and linking bank account and the Aadhaar number, have affected consumers of Indane and Bharatgas agencies.

Dealers of the companies complained that they were unable to bill new bookings and enter Aadhaar and bank account details using the new software. While Indane has over nine lakh consumers, Bharatgas has a consumer base of over two lakh in the district.

"The software has revealed certain issues for the last few days. This has hit the delivery of booked cylinders. The companies should take immediate steps to address the issue," said Babu Varghese, president, Kerala Indane Distributors Forum.

The liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) dealers in the district raised the issue at a meeting convened by the district collector Sheik Pareeth to discuss various issues associated with LPG distribution and transfer of subsidies. According to officials, the meeting was convened following complaints from consumers.

Meanwhile, oil companies agreed to take necessary steps to solve software problems at the meeting, which was attended by LPG dealers and taluk supply officers.

The meeting also decided to publish the price of non-subsidized cooking cylinders and subsidies every month in newspapers. According to officials, this would help to address the problem of cheating by dealers.

While 60% of the consumers of IOC in the district has linked their LPG connection with Aadhaar and bank account, the figure stands at 50% for Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd and 40% for Bharatgas.
