Tragedy struck the city early on Friday morning when a four storeyed BMC building collapsed around 6am in Mumbai's Mazgaon area. The building was inhabited primarily by BMC's tenants.
According to initial details, the building was located on Brahmadev Khot marg near Babu Genu market in Mazgaon area, which is close to the Dockyard Road station on the harbour line.
The building, civic officials said, was old and probably not maintained well. Civic officials were frantically trying to ascertain the exact number of survivors and those trapped.
This is the second major collapse in the city this year after the Aftab mansion, a residential building in Mahim collapsed in June, killing ten. The fire brigade had sent 12 fire engines, 4 ambulances and 2 rescue vans to initiate rescue operations.
