Taking a dig at the Congress-led UPA Government, Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Wednesday said that by the time General Assembly Elections approach, the Congress party would be left with only one ally - the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Naqvi’s comments seemed to be in sync with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks at Bhopal rally where the BJP’s PM candidate, too, mocked the ruling party saying that the next elections would be fought not by the Cobgress but the CBI.
“The next elections will not be fought by Congress, but by the CBI. The Congress lacks the strength to defeat the BJP, so they have put the CBI in field,” Modi said, while addressing the BJP’s ‘Karyakarta Mahakumbh’ rally at Bhopal.
It’s not the first time that the CBI is being slammed for being influenced by the ruling party; however the latest criticism by the Opposition party comes on the heels of YS Jaganmohan Reddy being freed on bail after 16 months.
The BJP was quick to find flaws with the CBI for not opposing Jagan’s bail saying, that the Congress had "blatantly" misused the investigating agency for political purposes in the alleged financial anomalies that had taken place during the rule of a Congress chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
"The news of Jaganmohan Reddy being given bail after 16 months in jail raises a lot of questions about the way CBI has handled the case. After staggering the charge sheet and 16 months in custody, today we are told that on eight of the ten cases CBI has said it did not find any material," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said.
"Can there be a more blatant misuse of CBI by the Congress than this?" Sitharaman said.
